Google Gemini Enlists The Sidemen for a Forest-Survival Content Series

Google Gemini has teamed up with UK creator collective The Sidemen on a five-video series — opening with a 24-hour forest-survival special — produced by creator agency Arcade, betting on native creator content over polished ads to win over a young, AI-sceptical audience.

Inside the Gemini x Sidemen Series

The first film went live on 20 September on the flagship 'Sidemen Sunday' channel: a 24-hour forest-survival special in which the group completes challenges to earn tokens they can spend at a 'Forest Tuck Shop', calling on Gemini for real-time help with survival skills along the way. Four more videos roll out from 24 October on the MoreSidemen channel, including a format where the group debates unusual food pairings before asking Gemini to suggest its own.

The work was produced with Arcade, the UK creator-management and media company, alongside Sidemen Entertainment. "This partnership is exactly what Arcade was built to deliver: pairing a brand like Google Gemini with The Sidemen, in formats that feel native rather than bolted on," said Arcade commercial managing director Joe Lamb. A fan giveaway of signed Sidemen merchandise and Google Home products rounds out the activation.

Why Google Is Going Native, Not Polished

AI assistants have a marketing problem that a glossy TV spot cannot solve: people need to see the product actually being useful before they trust it. Dropping Gemini into a genuine Sidemen format — where the assistant helps solve a real, on-camera problem — is a product demo disguised as entertainment, and it reaches an audience that skips ads by default.

It also fits a clear Google pattern. The same playbook sits behind its global MrBeast x Gemini tie-up: hand the assistant to creators with vast, loyal, largely Gen Z followings and let the demonstration happen inside content those audiences already choose to watch. For a challenger fighting ChatGPT for mindshare, borrowed creator trust is worth more than reach bought at scale.

The Risk: When 'Native' Meets AI Scepticism

The strategy only works if the integration earns its place. Creator audiences are quick to punish content that feels like an ad in disguise, and an AI assistant that appears bolted onto a survival stunt for the sake of it can do more harm than good. The payoff depends on Gemini genuinely helping on camera — not just being name-checked.

That is the real lesson for any brand chasing creator partnerships. Integrations land when the product solves a problem that is native to the content's premise, and fall flat when they interrupt it. The test is simple: would this moment still exist in the video if the brand weren't paying for it? If the answer is no, viewers will notice.

The winning move for AI brands isn't a bigger ad — it's a believable demo. Show the product solving a real problem inside content your audience already trusts, and let them draw their own conclusions.

When you work with creators, do you let the product prove itself in their world — or force your message into it?
