Meta chose the industry's biggest creative stage, Cannes Lions, to unveil a suite of AI-powered advertising and creative tools — underlining how central artificial intelligence has become to the company's pitch to marketers.
The updates included new customisation options for multimedia ads in Ads Manager, giving advertisers greater control over how creative assets are combined and displayed.
Meta also relaunched its Creator Studio with AI features to help creators generate ideas and manage content, and enhanced Lead Ads so businesses can offer direct appointment booking immediately after a form is submitted — cutting friction in customer acquisition.
AI at the heart of the pitch
Taken together, the announcements reinforce a now-familiar direction of travel: Meta wants to automate as much of the campaign process as possible, from creative generation to targeting and optimisation.
For advertisers, that promises real efficiency — more creative variations, faster, at lower cost — but also raises the perennial questions of brand control and transparency that come with heavy automation.
Meta also updated its personalisation and privacy controls, giving users more transparency over how other businesses' activity shapes their experience. For marketers, tighter user controls are a reminder that the data underpinning targeting is under continual scrutiny, and that first-party data and creative quality matter more as signal loss continues.
What UK brands should take from it
The practical lesson for UK marketers is to lean into Meta's creative automation while keeping a clear strategy and brand guardrails in place. AI can generate endless variations, but it cannot decide what a brand stands for or which idea is worth scaling.
The advertisers who benefit most will pair Meta's tools with strong creative judgement and disciplined measurement.
With appointment booking now built into Lead Ads and creator collaboration made easier, Meta is also signalling a push towards lower-friction, outcome-focused advertising — a welcome shift for performance-minded brands, provided they keep the customer experience front of mind.
Meta is making it easier than ever to produce advertising at scale, which means the scarce resource is no longer production — it's judgement. The brands that thrive will use these tools to amplify a clear idea, not to paper over the absence of one. — Daniel Nikolla, Founder of Merx Marketing
For marketers, Meta's AI tools remove the production bottleneck — so advantage shifts to strategy, creative judgement and brand consistency.
Is your team ready to use AI to scale creative — or would more variations just amplify a weak idea?
