Vitality recasts Stanley the dachshund as ‘your health’s best friend’
Updated: 6 days ago

TL;DR: Vitality has rolled out ‘Your Health’s Best Friend’, a new VCCP platform that repositions its 12-year mascot Stanley the dachshund as a supportive companion who nudges members toward healthier habits.
What changed
Vitality has launched ‘Your Health’s Best Friend’, a brand platform from VCCP that reframes Stanley the dachshund from a familiar face into an active supporter of members’ health. The 60-second hero film shows Stanley cheering on a struggling cyclist up a hill and went live nationwide from 6 October 2026 across TV, social and radio.
The work keeps the mascot, the CMO Keith Kropman and the VCCP relationship that have defined Vitality’s advertising, with the creative led by VCCP’s Liam Wilson. It is an evolution of a distinctive asset, not a reinvention.
Why evolving a mascot beats replacing one
Distinctive brand assets take years and serious money to build. Stanley has carried Vitality for over a decade, so stretching him to deliver a softer ‘support’ message banks all that existing recognition rather than starting from zero.
The shift from ‘protector’ to ‘encourager’ also aligns the mascot with Vitality’s actual product logic — rewarding healthy behaviour — making the character do strategic work, not just provide warmth.
The takeaway for brand owners
Before you retire a long-running character or platform, ask what more it could carry. A famous asset is usually under-exploited, not worn out, and a role change can refresh it without losing recognition.
Consistency of CMO, agency and asset — as at Vitality — is underrated. The brands that compound are often the ones that resist the urge to start again every few years.

The temptation after a decade with a mascot is to ‘go again’ with something new. Vitality has done the harder, smarter thing — given Stanley a bigger job.
