Solana Launches 'DvP' to Settle Institutional Trades in Seconds, With JPMorgan's Input
Updated: 6 days ago

TL;DR: The Solana Foundation has launched Solana DvP, an open-source delivery-versus-payment standard that settles institutional trades on-chain in seconds instead of days, built with input from JPMorgan.
What the Solana Foundation Launched
The Solana Foundation has unveiled Solana DvP, an open-source “delivery-versus-payment” programme that lets the two legs of a trade — the asset and the cash — settle atomically on-chain, meaning both happen together or neither happens at all. Trades reach finality in seconds, against the one-to-two days typical of the clearinghouse-and-custodian model that underpins traditional markets.
Crucially, this is infrastructure rather than a consumer product. The code is open-source, has passed external security audits, and is described as ready for real funds, with privacy features for confidential settlement on the roadmap.
Why JPMorgan's Fingerprints Matter
JPMorgan contributed what the Foundation called decades of settlement expertise, helping shape requirements around settlement deadlines, escrow isolation and token features such as pausable tokens and transfer hooks under Solana's Token-2022 standard. The bank's markets digital-assets head, Rhodel D'souza, said “a shared, open standard for atomic delivery-versus-payment is exactly the kind of foundational infrastructure institutional market participants require.”
Catherine Gu, who leads the relevant product work at the Solana Foundation, put the pitch plainly: “Atomic settlement removes counterparty risk inherent in traditional finance.” An early proof point already exists — a Galaxy Digital commercial-paper deal settled in USDC on Solana.
Marketing Minute's Read: Boring Infrastructure Is the Real Adoption Story
It is tempting to glaze over at “delivery-versus-payment.” Don't. Settlement risk — the gap between agreeing a trade and it actually completing — is one of the quiet, enormous costs of finance. Collapsing a two-day window to two seconds frees up capital tied up as collateral and removes the counterparty risk that lives in that gap.
The marketing signal is the co-sign. When a bank the size of JPMorgan lends its name and expertise to a public blockchain's standard, it reframes that chain from “speculative crypto” to “market plumbing.” For businesses, the takeaway is that tokenisation's progress is now being measured in audited standards and bank partnerships, not token prices.
Quick FAQ
What is delivery-versus-payment (DvP)?
It is a settlement method where the transfer of an asset and the payment for it happen simultaneously and atomically — both legs complete together or neither does — removing the risk that one party pays and does not receive.
How fast is Solana DvP compared with traditional settlement?
The Solana Foundation says trades settle with finality in seconds, versus the one-to-two days typical of clearinghouse-and-custodian settlement in traditional markets.
Is JPMorgan running this on Solana?
JPMorgan contributed settlement expertise that shaped the standard's design; it is not described as operating the programme. The code is open-source and has passed external security audits.
The flashiest crypto story this week is also the least flashy: a settlement standard. But removing the days-long gap between a deal and its completion is exactly the kind of unglamorous fix that moves real institutional money. Tokenisation's maturity now shows up in audited standards and bank partnerships, not token prices — and that is a far more durable signal.
