Espolòn Will Cover Half Your Surge-Priced Halloween Ride Home

Campari-owned Espolòn Tequila is reimbursing drinkers 50% of their Halloween ride-hailing fare — up to $25 — in a stunt called 'Fare Share' aimed squarely at surge pricing.

A tequila brand takes aim at surge pricing

Espolòn has found an unusually practical way to stay top of mind this Halloween. The Campari-owned tequila brand's 'Fare Share' programme reimburses drinkers 50% of a ride-hailing fare, up to $25, when they submit a qualifying receipt.

The timing is deliberate. Running through 1 November, the offer targets the surge pricing that spikes on one of the year's busiest nights out. Espolòn cites data that ride-share costs in major cities jumped 8–9x normal fares on Halloween last year.

Why utility beats another ad

Plenty of alcohol brands will run Halloween creative. Espolòn is doing something more useful: solving a real, shared frustration for its exact audience. Covering part of the ride home is also quietly responsible, nudging drinkers toward a safe option.

That blend of relevance and genuine utility is what makes experiential marketing travel. The idea is inherently shareable — people tell friends about a brand that paid for their taxi — which earns reach that a standard spot has to buy.

Built for the ground game

The stunt isn't running alone. It is supported by creator partnerships, bar and restaurant signage, and in-person activations at Halloween and Día de los Muertos events across Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Houston and Austin. It follows the brand's August 'Ride the Rooster' platform.

It also lands in a cultural moment: the FTC floated an enforcement policy on 'surveillance pricing' in August, which platforms deny. By siding with the consumer against unpredictable fares, Espolòn positions itself firmly on the customer's team.

What businesses should take from it

The transferable idea is to find the friction your customers feel around the moment they use your product, then remove it. A refund, a free add-on or a small guarantee can generate more goodwill than another round of advertising.

Marketing Minute's take: the best promotions don't just interrupt, they help. Espolòn turned a universal gripe — surge pricing — into a reason to choose its bottle, and that is marketing that earns its keep twice over.
