Elysium Construction marks ten years with a gala at One Great George Street
Updated: 5 days ago

London contractor Elysium Construction has marked a decade in business with a black-tie gala at the Institution of Civil Engineers in Westminster — a fitting setting for a company that began in 2016 as a one-person start-up and now works as principal contractor on nationally significant energy infrastructure.
On Friday 9 October 2026, clients, partners, suppliers and the team gathered at One Great George Street to celebrate ten years of Elysium Construction. The evening paired speeches and dinner with live music — and a look back at how far a single idea has travelled.
From one person to a principal contractor
Elysium was founded in 2016 by managing director Elson Bajrakurtaj, a structural engineer who set the business up to build projects as well as design them. Its first commission was a six-metre-deep basement beside a Grade II listed building, and early work included a hotel in Romford and a substation in Dagenham — the project that marked the company’s entry into the energy sector.
“We started small, but we did not start simple.”
— Elson Bajrakurtaj, founder and managing director, Elysium Construction
When construction slowed during the 2020 pandemic, Elysium used the time to invest in its systems, health and safety, and marketing, and began bidding for larger projects. It went on to become principal contractor on the Slough Multifuel energy-from-waste facility, and later joined the Grangemouth energy-from-waste project in Scotland at a critical stage.
Built on people
Ask the company what sits behind the growth and the answer is not a single contract but a culture. Elysium puts its first decade down to a people-first approach and to long-term relationships with clients who keep coming back — the quiet compounding that turns a promising start-up into a trusted principal contractor.
The next ten years
If the first decade was about proving Elysium could deliver, the second is about scale: larger, more complex projects for a contractor that has spent ten years saying yes to the hard ones. The gala at One Great George Street was a thank-you to the people who built the first decade — and a marker for the next.
