Co-op Takes On the 'Big Shop Faff' in VCCP-Made 'Pop to Co-op' Campaign

Co-op's new integrated 'Pop to Co-op' campaign satirises the hassle of the big supermarket shop to reframe convenience as no compromise on value — anchored by its Aldi Price Match.
The campaign
Co-op has launched "Pop to Co-op", a campaign built around the "big shop faff", created by VCCP with media by Dentsu and production by Girl&Bear. It runs from 9 September to 20 October 2026 across TV, radio, out-of-home, social and display.
A 20-second hero film, directed by Jonas Odell and soundtracked by Kurupt FM's "Suttin Like That", satirises wonky trolleys and endless aisles. Marketing director Sam Walker said there is "no value compromise to shopping conveniently", building on Co-op's 2025 Aldi Price Match launch.
The strategy under the joke
This is a textbook reframe. Convenience retailers have a structural disadvantage on the weekly shop — smaller baskets and a perception of higher unit prices. Rather than fight that on range, Co-op attacks the big shop itself, turning the rival's core occasion (the weekly stock-up) into a hassle to be avoided.
Our read: the smart move is pairing the emotional argument (the shop is a faff) with a rational proof point (Aldi Price Match). Humour reframes the category; the price match removes the obvious objection. Neither works as well alone.
What other brands can borrow
First, when you can't win on your weakest attribute, change the question. Co-op can't out-range a superstore, so it makes range-hunting the problem, not the prize. Look for the reframe that turns your structural limitation into the competitor's liability.
Second, back the reframe with a concrete value proof. Convenience has long carried a price-premium perception; a visible price-match commitment is what gives shoppers permission to believe the "no compromise" claim. Emotion changes the frame, evidence closes the sale.
Third, note the media choice: a broad, six-week integrated burst across TV, radio, OOH, social and display signals Co-op wants this as a brand-level repositioning, not a tactical promo. Convenience and grocery brands watching the discounters should study the play.
