Celebrity Traitors series 2 readership hits 1 million page views in first week

Rising TV viewership for the show is strengthening reader interest.

Reader interest for Celebrity Traitors hit 1 million page views in the first week since its return to screens, according to Taboola.

Series 2 of the celebrity version aired on October 1, with Richard E Grant, Maya Jama and James Acaster playing leading roles as traitors.

Readership interest peaked at 371,200 the following day across Taboola’s network of publishers.

The celebrity that caught the most amount of interest was Richard E Grant, following his unfortunate traitor admission just moments after being given the role. News stories about the actor have reached 604,000 page views over 45 days, while stories on fellow traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster reached 110,000 and 72,000 respectively.

Popular members of the faithful so far include Michael Sheen with 169,000 page views, Bella Ramsey with 87,000, James Blunt with 74,000 and Leigh-Anne Pinnock with 56,000.

Most page views have been reserved for presenter Claudia Winkelman, however, who has received 722,000 page views over 45 days, 100,000 of which were on October 1.

Winkelman’s former show Strictly Come Dancing also returned to screens recently, with news stories about the show reaching 2.2 million page views in one week.

Although readership numbers favour the dancing show, TV viewership figures are higher for Celebrity Traitors, which reached an average of 8.9 million viewers – an increase from the 6.1 million average recorded at episode one of series one – and peaking at 9.1 million. Viewership for Strictly, by comparison, reached an average of 4.8 million, peaking at 5 million.

Following the success of series one of Celebrity Traitors, it’s no surprise readership is high this time around. The format of the show – like that of Strictly Come Dancing – with its various twists, turns and celebrity expulsions, ensure there is a constant stream of news angles from which publishers can capitalise. — Dave Struzzi, Communications Lead, Taboola
